but with better passing. shame he was injured alot. could have been top 3 centre
texaspete33 (November 27, 2008 at 4:42 pm)
i see why Walton is underrated. he is the prototype for Tim Duncan. nothing flashy, fundamental, great D

EricAnno (November 21, 2008 at 1:29 am)
Uhhh, how is it all those things? Russell is the greatest player of all-time (yeah, better than Jordan) and I would say that makes him pretty damn influential.
kbballer4 (November 18, 2008 at 4:44 am)
to say bill russel was the influential player to ever play the game is ludicrous, laughable, it's a case of insanity...its a sign that everybody is loosing their freaking mind...it's anti christ, its child molesting and rape put into one sentence its shameful, MY GOD is despicable...its Gary Coleman in a dress...it's the canceling of king of the hill...its catch 22 and slaughter house together...its fox news hating on Obama its george bush doing his job...GOD DAMN IT I SAY ITS CRAZY
kbballer4 (November 18, 2008 at 4:39 am)
anybody else notice how at 1:47 he wasn't the one who blocked the shot. Damn white man get all the credit again...lol!!!!
originalname33 (November 15, 2008 at 12:43 am)
its not about could have been...its what he WAS(albeit, injured). yeah, years of just playing injured and playing to win (without caring about stats) will drag your stats down, but stats don't tell you everything.
the point is, when he was healthy, he was one of the best centers ever.

And I respect your opinion my brother, I just feel that for a guy to ONLY PLAY ABOUT 4 HEALTHY SEASONS, he did a whole lot with the little time he had!

I've lived in Portland all my life and Walton meant the world to us.

It's the BASKETBALL Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame. He got in because of his college accomplishments. He is probably the greatest Center ever to play in college basketball.
PhanatixDDH (October 28, 2008 at 4:33 am)
We'll just agree to disagree then. 1st team all NBA ONE TIME? 2nd team ONE TIME? Defensive team twice? Doesn't seem very impressive to me. MVP stuff is pretty good..but i donno, i just don't see those very few achievements as translating into Hall of Fame status. Thats just my take.
alcorderyjr (October 28, 2008 at 4:15 am)
... NBA and sports media used your logic, Gale Sayers wouldn't be in the NFL Hall of Fame. The NBA was very lucky that Walton was injured late in 1978 too because the Blazers were the favorite to repeat, their record when Bill went down with his foot injury was a mind-boggling 50-9! Trust me Phan, he's a valid Hall selection.
alcorderyjr (October 28, 2008 at 4:11 am)
PhanatixDDH, Walton is a deserved Hall of Fame inductee, he won two NBA championships, HE WAS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE LEAGUE IN 1978 (MVP) , he was the NBA Finals MVP, the '86 6th Man of the Year, 1st Team All-NBA ('78), 2nd Team All-NBA ('77) and 1st Team All-Defense ('77 and '78) . He also is one of just 4 players in league history (!) to lead the league in rebounds and blocks in the same season, the others: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Hakeem Olajuwon and Ben Wallace, a rare double indeed. If the ...
goldlion2 (October 19, 2008 at 12:44 am)
he was a huge stoner...
ExplosiveThinMan (October 18, 2008 at 4:27 am)
When he was healthy Bill Walton as good all around as any center that ever played.
PhanatixDDH (October 12, 2008 at 10:56 pm)
ALTHOUGH, I will concede that his college career was unbelievable. I guess what I'm trying to say is, his NBA career alone is not enough to say he's deserving of his spot in the Hall of Fame if that makes sense.
PhanatixDDH (October 12, 2008 at 10:54 pm)
How is an injury a valid point? Like I said, you can't put someone in the Hall of Fame based on what was possible had they not been injured. It's based on what they actually contributed to the NBA, and from looking at his stats and his awards, it really wasn't enough.
xSportsKingx (October 12, 2008 at 10:53 pm)
If Walton was healthy 100% of his career all his numbers would be Hall of Fame worthy no doubt in my mind.
xSportsKingx (October 12, 2008 at 10:47 pm)
Love how he makes a completley valid piont and you just say don't make excuses for him.
PhanatixDDH (September 22, 2008 at 6:15 am)
Based on his NBA career, he's nowhere near hall of fame worthy.
But since college counts, that's why he's in it.

IdanTal (September 22, 2008 at 6:04 am)
but did dwight won an mvp and a finals mvp?no.
PhanatixDDH (September 22, 2008 at 2:39 am)
I dont give a crap about his injuries. Like i said, you can't make excuses for him. So you're saying he should be in the hall based on what he could have done had he not been injured? you can't just assume anything, it has to be based on what he actually did...
And his best season wasn't even that amazing. Dwight Howards best season is already better than that. If Dwight retired now, would he make the Hall? HELL NO he wouldn't..

did you even sew his playoffs games you bum?he dominanted everyone, did you know hes consirded the best big man passer of all time...his final game i think when the blazers won he score close to 30 took 18 rebounds 4 blocks and like 6 assissts he was amazing
PhanatixDDH (September 14, 2008 at 8:40 am)
Bill Walton is the most overrated player of all time.
13.3ppg, 10.5rpg, 2.2bpg. Are those hall of fame career stats?? Hell, those were Andrew Bynum's numbers LAST YEAR. Yes, he won that blazers championship, but come on people. What did he contribute to the league that wasn't accomplished by all the other great centers. He's hardly even top 10 for me in terms of greatest centers.
Yes he got injured a lot, but you can't put someone in the hall of fame based one what COULD HAVE been.
