I think he`s saying that while fiat owns ferrari, they dont have any say in decisions ferrari makes, and in that sense ferrari is independent, though it isnt......

what makes you say that? The FXX is derived from the Enzo platform, and should therefore have the same petrol V12.

No i'm not! look Fiat doens't have the power to say what ferrari does or doesn't do because it was one of the conditions when they bought Ferrari... so in that sence of the word Ferrari is idependent doesn't depend on Fiat... do you understand now what i as saying?

You are contradicting yourself. You just stated that Fiat owns Ferrari and then that Ferarri is independent.

Fiat owns Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Lancia but Ferrari is idependet... no one else owns Ferrari, at this time Maserati is under the controll of Alfa Romeo
