john frusciante isn't a great guitar player because he takes a lot of influence from jimi hendrix. if jimi hendrix never existed, john would still be a great guitar player, but just wouldn't sound like jimi. it's not the influence or style that makes a good guitar player, it's the things he creates with them.

my point is that this guitar style is solely one that hendrix created. no one ever heard this type of guitar playing (little wing) before hendrix played it. RHCP and Pearl Jam are good examples of bands that wouldnt exist without hendrix.
