Kalari Martial Arts
7 minutes of some amazing Martial Arts by my friends in Kerala, South India. It's from a very, very rough video - remember those? filmed by one camera at a time, so picture quality is rough. But you should be able to geta feel for the martial art form itself.

What you see in this video, as you might have guessed, is choreographed movements. The intent is to create a spectacle, rather than using technically correct movements.Another version of Kalari is Anga Kalari, used in tournaments in fights to the death/disablement. Not very commonly practiced nowadays.

Other martial arts had thrown away bad techniques or recognized flaws through training. When the English occupied India, they were armed with single-shot muzzleloading rifles. They would have to use their bayonet after the first shot.
The English took over so easily because they were superior warriors, while the Indians bickered over whether what caste should worship rats or walking cheeseburgers

This is some of the worst bullshido I've ever seen.Bad posture, giving away their balance,,exposing their backs, doing blocks with no counter, and numerous linear attacks that are beyond easy to defend against.
No wonder the English rolled over them so easily.

Yes, ROIndia. One Kalarippattya Guru told me that the British saw Kalari as a threat so they made it illegal and with it the weapons used in it.
History of Kalarippattya: It along with various other knowledge systems were taken from India to China by the then Indian Buddhist monks.
* It is no wonder then thatalmost all the oriental martial arts have their origins in Kalari as they start with K.
K for Karate, Tai-Kwan do etc.

they have small shields because it is easy to carry while doing dangerous manouvers with the swords or the whips and if you loot carefully some also have little iron semi circle balls in the front of them about 4 of them this is so they can use the sield as a weapon to like wack the person in the face or what not

U retard do not know any of the basic facts about kerala.1.Christians are the major economic power in kerala.
2.politics in kerala is vertually controlled by Christians.
3.Christians manage educational institions than any other community in kerala.
4.40 % of the Rea estate,67 % of the Jewellery and 72 % of the Textile business in Kerala is run by keralites.
Do u need any more evidence to prove the dominance of Christians in kerala.

Christian majority, wtf. I'm from Kerala, and there is no freakin Christian majority. The majority is Hindu.

This maybe the reason why the British never really managed to conquer Kerala. Over the entire British rule, Kerala always had its own king. Annoying foreigners... desist trying to kill our culture.

Kerala is definitely in India! I'M FROM KERALA. I think they mistook "Kerala" with "Karachi", or something...Because if they made a geographical error, not a spelling one, they're retarded. Kerala is in South India, at the very tip. How the hell could someone mistake that for being in Pakistan?
RepublicOfIndia (December 1, 2008 at 12:38 am)
Well, the weapons they use are flexible and long. It's not possible to stab with those. It would be like trying to thread a string through a needle. Though when using short weapons, there is stabbing.

Erm, saying the Bodhidharma is not from India is like saying Karate did not come from China. In Malayalam, "bodhi" means brains, intelligect, etc. This is a common term for most languages in India.
Dharma... I am not sure there is a Malayalam term for that, but in North India, dharma is duty.
Bodhidharma would mean "Intelligence, duty" in most parts of India. Still think the Bodhidharmadid not get his teachings from India?

The martial arts irrefutably come from India and was spread by Buddhist monks who brought it to China and beyond. For the first 1000 years the martial arts were practiced only in Buddhist temples as Chuan Fa (closed fist of the Buddhist Dharma) in China&in Japan as "Tenjiku Naranokaku" or "Indian battlefield practices"). Even the Samurai gave props to Bodhidharma as the founder. So just as Buddhism took different forms so did the martial arts which are Indian in their origin. All experts agree
