One of my favorite films ever with so many great performances. I first heard this piece of music on vacation. My parents bought a CD with the 50 Greatest Movie Soundtracks and this was on it. The first time I heard it I was moved to tears. Then I saw the movie and it was just beautiful. One of the finest pieces of both music and movies.

I just saw this film, not a movie, a film. The finest thing I've seen in recent memory. This scene brought tears to my eyes...just magnificent.
This medium CAN be so powerful&moving. Why had I never heard of The Mission until my mom mentioned it because it was recommended through people at her church?
New respect gained for Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons because of this film. I didn't know there was room in my top ten movies list, but here this one comes along and its right at the top.

Has there ever been a more beautiful, stirring sountrack that Ennio Morricone's "The Mission"? Brings tears to my eyes everytime I play the soundtrack. Awesome film, amazing soundtrack, incredible composer.

Hontar: We must work in the world, your eminence. The world is thus.
Altamirano: No, Señor Hontar. Thus have we made the world... thus have I made it.

It has to be remebered that he has just been a slave trader, killed his brother in a fit of jelously, climbed a huge cliff carrying a tonne of equipment behind him, and had his life spared by the natives he once hunted for profit. Though my favorite scene is the one at the end, where Irons and DeNiro look upon each other dying, brothers again, each having met the same reasult, despite the path.

THE MOST touching part is that he has come to God.... a murdering slave trader.....

This is indeed the best scene from "the mission"
Mr de niro does both crying and laughing at the same time, with a perfect score behind...RDN is the best actor ever. check out goodfellas, casino, raging bull, taxi driver, mean streets, cape fear etc etc.

The MOST touching film I have ever seen... how a cruel, barbaric, athiestic bully comes to GOD.... not told in a preachy way.... a very moving story... heartbreaking and joyful.....
The music is certainly superior as well... thank you for posting this
