Still, with artists like Mongrain and Hendrix, there should be no competition.

I'm sure they didn't end up in the music industry just so they could show off; Hendrix had so much soul that you couldn't compare it. On the other hand, Mongrain has a LOT of soul, just a different... "type", if you follow.

Are you KIDDING me? Look, I'm fine with you having a different opinion and all, but to have the nerve to say such a thing, and the ignorance to claim "August Rush rules them all!"

You can't say that these songs are the rip-offs when the most famous song from that movie was repetition of harmonic slaps; while these songs are actually created with care of melodic content.

LMFAO @ this tool calling Dillinger Escape Plan innovative. Ben Weinman's entire career has been a huge exercise in copying Today Is the Day's Willpower album. And he doesn't even play well live.

What is "harmonically interesting" rehashing every guitar metalcore lick that has become a cliche over the past 10 years?

Neither artist is very original, but I'd rather rip off Don Ross and Michael Hedges than Deadguy and Greg Ginn. Yuck.

Fine. I will name a couple guitarists that, in my opinion, blow this guy out of the water. Dan and Pin from Sikth. Paul Waggoner and Dusty Waring from Between the Buried and Me. Ben Weinman from Dillinger Escape Plan. These guys make much more innovative and interesting music IN MY OPINION. Remember that. All of this is subjective. You have your opinion and I don't agree with it. Also, even though he is not technically as impressive, John Frusciante has more soul than most musicians out there.

Just in case you think you're talking to someone who is just trying to be a wiener then let me assure you that I am very educated musically and I consider myself a much better guitarist than Mongrain. Come on man, he just impressing you with a technique. His music is boring to me. It has nothing harmonically interesting to me. You're not going to convince me that he is the best guitarist out there because he is definitely not.

nd i'm sure freddie highmore could play bits and pieces of the songs, but if you watch, he's not even hitting the right notes half the time. there's a reason why they filmed Kaki King's fingers when they zoomed up on August playing. And I can't name more than 15 guitarists MORE innovative than Mongrain because I think Mongrain is up there...but I can definitely name 15 who are equally skilled and innovative. You on the other hand, I doubt you can name even 5. You claimed there were hundreds

yes i play guitar. i wouldn't say a word about a subject i'm ignorant about. i know guitar though. kid from august rush? REALLY??! that kid doesnt even play. the songs freddie highmore IMITATED in that movie were played by Kaki King, who wrote Bari Improv, and her rendition of Michael Hedges' Ritual Dance. Doug Smith and some other guy wrote dueling guitars. but neway, you're talking like those are Freddie's songs and he can actually play them. lol
