Demonstration of the Moog Minimoog

This is a portion of a discussion concerning how great the Moog Minimoog is. Basically a very small demonstration of a fraction of the sounds and capabilities of the Moog Minimoog... perhaps the most beautiful, beautiful sounding, and functional synthesizer ever produced.Feel free to link to this video or post it on your page, but please give me credit by marking it "by Marc Doty." Thanks!

Well, I have a few Casios and a Minimoog. I can't beleive anyone would say the Casio is anywhere near as good as the Moog. You know what they say about opinions....
AutomaticGainsay (January 2, 2009 at 3:34 pm)
Me too. Of course, if I had£3000, I could buy more than that.
; )

I think it'd be pretty funny having someone with no context stumble upon this video and hearing him talk about triangles.
CAPTAINOCTAVE (December 31, 2008 at 7:46 pm)
man that is so sweet
oscillatorion (December 31, 2008 at 5:55 pm)
Euhmmm... an Oscillator isn't a "function" it's a PART of EVERY synthesizer.
But if you meant the Minimoog sounds GREAT... you are absolutely right. I'm never getting rid of my Minimoog Model D

These are some nice fat sounds. Keith Emerson created some of the best when playing Aquatarkus on "Welcome Back my Friends". I believe he also sent the sound through reverb.

I went with the Voyager Old School for the reliance, and because I didn't want to be distracted by digital features. Plus, without the digital tech, the price dropped a couple hundred dollars :D
Jrayk1 (December 27, 2008 at 8:43 am)
*The oscillators ARE the greatest functions on this synthesizer
Soulfree2008 (December 26, 2008 at 6:05 am)
This is like a breath of fresh 70s era air...
Nice natural alternative to 'pure digital' format of today...

that trangular sawtooth thing is a rounded sawtooth i believe

Same here, I can't play but would love to have one just to play with. I've gone to Guitar Center and played with a Korg for about 45 minutes.

Man, I've watched this video for 20 times or so now. I really like all the sounds and stuff. I can't play keyboard (Apart from some simple things like the Tetris song), but it would be some much fun to just have this synth and create some cool sounds...Thank you (Marc Doty?) for uploading this video.

Did Stevie Wonder use the Moog?
AutomaticGainsay (December 19, 2008 at 2:12 am)
I think fatblckchick nailed it.
If you are looking for the classic Minimoog sound, you've got to go with the original. If you want a very feature-filled modern analog monosynth with a good sound, then go with the Voyager.
fatblckchick (December 19, 2008 at 1:54 am)
depends on what you want

My money is on this one for sound

but features I think the voyager

for instance if you are performing live presets would be needed
EntrailSaunders (December 19, 2008 at 12:08 am)
which one is better? this one or the voyager?
veggieburgerfish (December 11, 2008 at 11:37 pm)
your right, that is the best sounding synthesizer ever made.
AutomaticGainsay (December 11, 2008 at 3:37 pm)
I am in Seattle now, so I'm probably even more distant!
Jrayk1 (December 11, 2008 at 6:35 am)
I'd let you compare my Voyager Old School to your Mini D if I lived in Spokane. However, I live a couple states away, and I don't realize how much I love my Voyager until I can't play it.
sharplikecheddar2 (December 10, 2008 at 12:01 am)
Hey love the post... Im in music school and we just started learning about the minimoog. I love the sound is so genuine. keep posting vids they are a help and awesome to watch
AutomaticGainsay (December 7, 2008 at 11:08 pm)
Yes, and because you have a couple that you've had good luck with, the fact that thousands of other people have not had that good luck should be completely ignored.
P.S. If you've got analog synths you've had for 20 years that you haven't had to tune or range, something magical is happening and people should rub you for good luck.
speedlemon90 (December 7, 2008 at 10:55 pm)
I'm a bug for Moog's
