BILL MOYERS JOURNAL | Buying the War | Excerpt | PBS

Bill Moyers Journal: Buying the WarWednesday, April 25, 2007 at 9 PM on PBS (check local listings)How the administration marketed the war to the American people has been well covered, but critical questions remain: How and why did the press buy it, and what does it say about the role of journalists in helping the public sort out fact from propaganda?

In this clip from the premiere of Bill Moyers Journal on PBS, Bob Simon of 60 Minutes, who was based in the Middle East, talks about the reporting he was seeing and reading out of the beltway, and John Walcott and Warren Strobel of Knight Ridder newspapers (now The McClatchy Company), discuss their work burrowing deep into the intelligenceagencies to determine whether there was any evidence for the Bush Administration's case for war. On Wednesday, April 25 at 9 P.M. on PBS (check local listings), watch "Buying the War," a 90-minute documentary that explores the role of the press in the lead-up to the invasion of Iraq, which includes interviews with Dan Rather, formerly of CBS; Tim Russert of Meet the Press; and Walter Isaacson, former president of CNN.

Two days later on April 27, the Bill Moyers Journal airs its regular timeslot on Fridays at 9 P.M. with interviews and news analysis of underreported stories across an arrayof beats, including: the environment, media, politics, the economy, arts and culture, and social issues.

You'll never hear McCain threaten Bin Laden. When I heard them say Bush was reelected in '04 I knew Bin Laden would be alive for at least four more years. He's a PNAC partner. He's like a junkie's enabler, and they love him. There are National Review type rightists who wish him victory. So what kind of "victory" their boy Mocain is peddling I can't guess.

take a bloodbath in Iraq stupidity, it might wash away your simple fears,
and might awake the demon you feared,

you affixed ridicule to the informed and professional, that is in itself inexcusable

This is something new? I hear not one fact not one source. You people need to move on with your life>You people can't get over the fact that you Don't have the power of spoon feed news (LIE'S) to the American people anymore, Just to keep your hold of you power

I recommend everyone see this whole broadcast. It's an absolute classic.Sickest of all, though, is that there are some--look at these pages for example!--who're still arguing that the Bush regime was right. That's roughly the state of critical thinking in the US now...and why we completely lack credibility in the rest of the world.

I guess that was his connection to terrorism, to answer alvincay100 - our own CIA, lol.

Saddam was content to be a rich dictator. As this video clearly points out, and most other Middle East experts, he was a control freak, so he kept out 'competition,' like Islamic extremists.Bush-Cheney had more ties to terrorism than Saddam, they have put out pure BS on 9-11, Iraq, etc.; not 5, or 10, but SIXTEEN US intelligence agencies have said Bush's Iraq war has Increased hatred of US, therefore Terrorism!Defeat Bush's boy McCain, more of the same.

Don't bother trying to explain it to this person. Their brain has rotted away and has been replaced with a robot neocon brain that will believe anything those derelicts say. This person is a lost cause and will most likely vote for Mc Can't in this year's election and suit up for his 100 year war.

So who is 'Rev Lindsay Williams'? Just another man with another opinion. Who know whether HIS FACT are true - one source doesn't prove ANYTHING to me.
jjbingsnyc (June 5, 2008 at 10:51 pm)
who's report though?
alvincay100 (April 24, 2008 at 11:00 pm)
Of course Saddam had ties to terrorism.... Look it up, there was a recent report released.
stellaglide07 (April 9, 2008 at 11:30 pm)
First of all most all of the media in owned by the bankers and money changers and most of them are the ones in the Bush Administration. Or worse yet they are all supporters. Read the book Energy the Non Crisis by Rev Lindsay Williams. Very interesting business the govt and media is not telling the American people. Keep us all in fear and they can control the world.
They are all crooks and it is time Congress starts DEFENDING our Constitution instead of the ones who want to change it????
monegarand (March 9, 2008 at 2:50 pm)
The mainstream media is just the propaganda arm of the government.

Have you ever been in a confrontational situation that led to a fight either in school or as an adult then when you explained it to authorities you told a biased version that made you look good?U.S. History books are biased, Presidents are biased, U.S. news media is biased&censored, you have to listen to all sides to get the real truth. Watch the Movie Wag The Dog to get a concept of how you the people are manipulated&die in wars for false reasons.
ogjimkenobi (January 13, 2008 at 7:30 am)
Yeah but everything Ive been told by trusted news outlets here in the states tells me that since these guys are reporting outside the US media status quo, they must be pro terrorism and anti US troops.....Im really confused, Fox and friends are my friends.....right?

Dude you think that is bad just look up on You Tube Cheny and Iraq 1994.
AxelQC (November 20, 2007 at 12:20 am)
The war never made sense. Bush's own father and Dick Cheney repeatedly said that it would be a mistake throughout the 1990s. Instead of asking W why he was refuting his father, they asked him questions that looked like they were cheerleaders instead of journalists.
