Shipping Route Changes Because of Pirates


Recent pirate attacks have some shipping companies rethinking their routes. Some are now going around Africa, adding time and expense. There have been at least nine attacks in the past 12 days off the coast of Africa. (Nov. 21)

It was later revealed that this "pirate mothership" was actually a fishing vessel that was attacked by the pirates. The surviving crew were rescued and hospitalised. Would post a link to the news sites reporting this but apparently youtube doesnt allow links in posts anymore.

there are some very cheap options in fixing the problem: equip a percentage of ships passing with stealth guards on board equiped with some light modern armament like small rockets and amchine guns,some will get busted and fear will spread around fast,and spend some money paying some somaly guards to patrol there waters ,pay some informants to find out when and where

Lol, well armed with RPGs and machine guns... Since when are small arms the best of the best in naval warfare. AKs are a dime a dozen ($400 for a shitty Romanian WASR online) and you can get brand new GPS units for less than a hundred bucks online.

Give those ships some FLIR cams and 20mm rifles and tell them to watch themselves in bottlenecks already.

Is hard to protect all ships, costly to bring many military ships to protect civilian ships, and also pirates now have more powerful weapons difficult to stop them, and often civilian ships do not have weapons they get caught off guarded. Pirates risk their lives to get food and supplies. Dangerous missions, for both civilian and pirates, and difficult for dipolmats to negociate to give money or kill all.

After the ones who want to fight are all gone and the smoke has cleared, build a world class airport and sell the land to developers for condos and beach front resorts, using the cooperative residents remaining for maids, servants and taxi drivers.
