And that's just the biggest they've found, it's a mathematical certainty there are many stars much much bigger than VY CANIS MAJORIS. Earth is so woefully minute in the Cosmos, so utterly insignificant it numbs my mind.
Sawstinker (January 8, 2009 at 2:34 am)
oh, and Cantis Majori or something liek that is acutally the biggest star. 7 billion times the volume of the sun. the sun is 1.3 million times bigger than us, making the largest star 9100000000000000 times bigger than earth.
Sawstinker (January 8, 2009 at 2:31 am)
True. This is off topic but to me it is kind of obvious that there is other life out there.

But infinite sounds so much more poetic...

I thought that the universe was always expanding

All this self aggrandizement when we're just microbes on a microbe floating in infinite BIGNESS...

I think there are quite a few theories... but the Big Bang theory is most supported by scientific evidence. ^_^ Keep in mind the word 'theory' though. It might be wrong if it is disproved. :p

you're both kind of wrong. It is ever expanding, and it has no stop in sight. You could say it ends and you could also say it doesn't end.
60l23 (January 4, 2009 at 5:15 am)
Wrong, or at least so the Big Bang theory would tell you.
tarantularose (January 4, 2009 at 12:43 am)
their is no size of the universe it doesn't end
guldynka (January 3, 2009 at 7:59 pm)
Well, of course they are not that big compared to the universe but for example C.Majoris is almost as big as our binar system... try to imagine ;)
allogenia (January 3, 2009 at 4:01 pm)
Wow those are some big numbers.
And I doubt any red giant is anything in comparison to the real size of the universe.

Omid45, Yes, we are the only living things for now, but I am sure there is life in the Universe and in our own MW galaxy as well. The problem with opinions that there is no life in our MW galaxy is based on that our search (via attena dish arrays) have not 'heard' anything yet...however the error with that is that we are only listening in the hydrogen spectrum. Any highly advanced civilation would most probably NOT be using the hydrogen spectrum to 'send' signals. Thanks for your comment!
carmellarocks (December 23, 2008 at 7:28 pm)
Actually, the bigger the planets get, the smaller anything alive on them are. The gravity is just tremendously strong on larger planets, so the beings would have to be small to....be able to move! lol
