Does anyone actually "pull a lever" to vote anymore? That seemed dated even when this was first released a few years ago.
enotdetcelfer (December 5, 2008 at 10:54 pm)
well actually that was kinda my point. unfortunately I dont have the time or the comment box space to explain my points to people with opposing views who aren't willing to think about the implications of what other people say. Thanks anyway though 8)

I'm sorry, but that is a gross hyperbole. If three men wanted to rape a women, they would not take the time to vote about it.

In todays world the minority groups arent really minorities when added together.....

1. The majority rules in each individual state. So what's the difference?
2. We elect governors, senators etc. in this fashion.
3. The majority rules in most elections. We're not talking about 2 wolves voting to eat the sheep. We're talking about electing the president. The electoral college doesn't protect anyone from jack shit.

majority rule is not really a good idea. remember when it was white people vs black people? the majority wasn't right. What happens if three men vote to rape a woman and the one woman votes no? The electoral college is meant to take into consideration the opinions of minority states by using the weighting system of senators and congressmen. Its the little idea called the rule of law before the rule of the majority.

Anyone can be appointed the rules vary by state. The means by which it becomes rigged is that political parties nominate there own so naturally the outcome is predictable as to that party member elect their fellow party member. Whats a party if your friends arent invited?

Damon, when was there ever a single election turned by a roque electorate? The answer is never. You do know that only the winning party electorates vote, right?Learn your history before sounding off.

this is very amusing to watch stoned.. i didnt understand any of it. let me get this right, you vote for someone to vote for you, who may not even vote (though these are all very rich people with no experience of real life???) and all the people you actually vote into govenment can at anytime be overruled by your king , sorry i mean president?

If the electoral college is not seated by Senators or Representatives, Then who are these state appointed people? Are they Lawyers, Judges, Business Men&Women? Does anyone know? Can I be on the electoral college? The troubling part is that these people are NOT REQUIRED to vote as the majority in their state did. Unless you trust these APPOINTED people who you do not vote for and don't know, your vote for the president doesn't count for shit.

Good solution to the electoral college / representation problem:
Significant reduction in the size and scope of federal government, and sound money.
Most of the stuff the federal government deals with should be handled by the states.
And, if it was not possible to create more dollars to hand out to special interests, the federal government wouldn't have much to offer us. And, with no income tax we'd keep more money (that wouldn't lose value from inflation).

I actually for the first time. possibly may not be voting for president in this election. I dont see a big difference in either canidate. Who ever wins. They will most certainly serve corperations and bankers interest first and the american citezen.well, they will try to fit our needs in their some where at the bottom of their list.the wishes, hopes and demands of americans have seemed to be ignored by reps and dems my whole life. and im 42

The real problem with the Florida recount in 2000 wasn't the hanging chads and butterfly ballots but something more abstract - the winner-take all rule which awarded all 25 Florida electors to Bush.ME and NE choose their electors differently - only two statewide, the rest by congressional district. If FL had this in 2000 then any recount would have had only 3 electors at stake. Bush would have received only 14 electors when he needed 24 to win. Gore would have won the election.
kakaduck2 (October 27, 2008 at 12:22 am)
Keep the electoral College if you want, just give each state the a number of electors equal to the number in Congress and NOT include Senators. The way it is now, the 500,000 people in Wyoming get 3 electoral votes, about 1 electoral vote for every 167,000 people, while Pennsylvania's 12,400,000 get 21 electoral votes, about 1 electoral vote for every 590,000 people. So if you live in a shitty backwater, congratulations asshole, your vote is worth 2 to 3 times as normal!
evan80015 (October 22, 2008 at 6:26 am)
I couldn't agree with you more. It helps give each state some power. If its wasn't for the electoral system California would determine the election. The candidates would have to do no campaigning in small states.

Fuck the "electoral college" and Fuck you assholes for supporting it.
jeff123jason (October 21, 2008 at 7:52 pm)
