the claim made at 1:07 is complete bulls****! The panals the reporter pointed to on the ground are at least 60watt peak. I live off grid. I've studied PV and Wind power for years and the only way one might get 1500watts out of a panal the size of a cd jewelcase is to reduce its voltage to a mili-fraction of a volt which would make it completely worthless. Another example of the mainstream media pulling the publics D***. Although I will totally agree, solar/wind is our only hope. Thank you.

I live in Allegheny County in Pennsylvania, the home of Duquesne Light Company. We have the most expensive power in the entire country. We now average .12 per kilowatt hour. My electric bill for a small 3 bedroom home with gas heat, gas water heater, gas dryer, and gas cooking averages $380 per month.

There are companies using mirror and optics to concentrate a large area of sun light into a small photovoltaic solar panel. But they use some cooling system , since solar panels don't work well if get much heat. Is this solar panel of this video different, like requirering no cooling system????

Good thing Edison didn't listen to all the skeptics. I am hopeful that this new generation of engineers will come up with some lasting break through that will seem as commonplace to our youth as the cell phone now does.

at least its a step forward...
oil will eventually run out so we only have wind/solar/dams/tidal/geothermal energy.
jkrieger10 (December 25, 2008 at 4:27 pm)
Don't get so excited. The electricity will be sold at 10-12 cents per kWh, which is completely non-competitive, at least in the U.S., where electricity costs between 3-6 cents per kWh, depending on location and other factors. Yes, it's another step in the development of the photovoltaic industry, but a breakthrough? Not really. To TRAVLINGKING, you say solar energy "Get's us off foreign oil." No it doesn't. That would require fleets of plug-in hybrid or all-electric vehicles.

The whole world depends on US to lead it... Russia's going into another recession because the OIL went dramatically down.. China's not going to be doing that good because Obama's going to be creating national jobs.... and as far as the WW3 its very possible because there's alot of tension betwn everyone...Untill people dont respect nature and live creatively things are going to be a mess...
MrXeon2008 (December 24, 2008 at 11:54 pm)
This is a great idea. Think about places like the Sahara desert. There would be space for hundreds of square miles of thease solar systems. Not bad :)
MrXeon2008 (December 24, 2008 at 11:52 pm)
Are u a retard? Quote " The world doesnt seem to change its course untill U.S. leads the world in a different direction .....".And you think the US is going to lead the world? No the US will prob lead the world into world war 3..... US vs China n Russia. Then uk back US then Europe get involved. Another world war. Thats the only thing that the us will do.
eal1011 (December 24, 2008 at 2:00 pm)
Time for us to find new fuel sources. Many people cannot afford their own power for their homes. Solar is a good replacement Less pollution, runs well, costly at start but the long run is effective.
TRAVLINGKING (December 23, 2008 at 8:01 am)
The US should focus it's money for the "stimulus package" on solar subsidies.Jobs, Get's us off foreign oil which gives money to those who hate the US, and it's a clean energy source.

Quasicrystals can be used to construct photonic band-gap materials that bend incident photons at 90 degree angles without losing any signal quality!

A Layered photonic band-gap material could be used to construct photovoltaic panels with over 90% efficiency!

All this is now possible with quasicrystals!

Steven Chu ..Wiki his name he is an award winning scientist that is going to be the head of the energy department in Obama's compaign.....

He is an unbelievable person Proffessor/Scientist/AmatuerEconomist/Inventor...Etc etc etc
comediancentralmusli (December 18, 2008 at 11:54 pm)
Chu?
sechun (December 18, 2008 at 10:23 am)
does anyone know the symbol for this company?
blacklightpower (December 17, 2008 at 11:00 pm)
Impressive!
DeNnaceTheMeNaCE (December 17, 2008 at 1:55 am)
THis is awesome ... This is going to take over the world and finally technology that immitates nature ....It is the way of the future..!!!

Obama/Biden/Chu/Hillary = Great team of world leaders...

The world doesnt seem to change its course untill U.S. leads the world in a different direction .....

Oil Companies.. Electric Companies..Coal. All you CEOs that have been making wars and corrupt greedy politics for the 100 years are all going out of business finally
rdt1970 (December 16, 2008 at 11:39 am)
what we want is free electricity so we can get off the grid power our homes for free instead of giving our hard earned money to these big companies who know we getting closer and closer to consumer electricity independence devices/services LOVE IT 2 fingers to the govs
rokag333 (December 16, 2008 at 11:35 am)
inventor the frenchthermophotovoltaic cell
principe discovered by Pierre Aigrain (1956).
So "public domain"
find everything with key words "tpv cell"

so great professor the day you will see something great from israel will be the day they will give the land back to palestinian
Coolflames101 (December 14, 2008 at 8:02 am)
Yes, I totally agree with you. The uses of oil go beyond just energy. I think we can both agree that we should use the reserves we have now wisely, to try and make a "smooth" transition if we can away from oil. Recycling plastic would be the next best thing in creating the plastics we need. Or, we'll just begin to drastically change our life styles. Good discussion :)
OUTOFGAS88 (December 14, 2008 at 4:39 am)
I have no doubts , about , the battery technology improving, what i do doubt is the ability of any alternative energy source , or , technological break through to be able to replace the hundreds of millions of INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINES,that are currently in use to day leave alone the hundreds of CHEMICALS and manufactured goods can not be produced without CRUDE OIL,lets not even talk about food production, technology can't solve these problems there are to many people who don't understand this.
Coolflames101 (December 14, 2008 at 12:33 am)
This is amazing. Those middle easterners have been sitting on fossel fuels for 80 years now, they have sooo much money and power and sunlight, yet they do nothing to become the energy capital of the world.

Israel: 1 Saudi Arabia: 0
Coolflames101 (December 14, 2008 at 12:31 am)
Once batteries become more efficient, and you have a hybrid, you can recharge your batteries overnight using the power grid. These things take time, but they will happen :)
analyzermike (December 13, 2008 at 4:35 am)
well...this is one of the way that we can save our electricity lol.. :P
i had try one of the renewable energy...
tinyurl[dot]com/6atm2a

from the guide, i can set my own energy system and does not depending to the power company anymore!!

just wanna share with you guys..
so have a look here... :)

I like ,but the whole world should get together and figure this things out, instead of every country for itself. Think of all the progress that we will make.
