Actaually, the snare drums still have ten lugs - as long as you're talking 14" - but the 13" snares usually feature 8 lugs.

woohhooo my dream kit!!i'm going to buy a sonor sq2 next year
liveundrums (December 23, 2008 at 3:28 pm)
That's the type of kit I'd have. I wouldn't go with the remo heads(which they have as an option on some kits) because I think they deaden the sound of the toms. Sonor heads have a better resonance. I'm only going by ear though, from recorded sound(as opposed to live sound), with that opinion

it's pronounced suh-noor dude
Yazuac23 (December 22, 2008 at 2:21 pm)
I think Sonor is better.
I've got one and my teacher has a DW. We always play on my set because it's better ;)

I reckon you can get good sound out of any drum kit be it pearl masterworks, sonor sq2 or a dw collectors...BUT...Sonor's just look so prettiful!!
AlanColeslaw (December 14, 2008 at 4:14 pm)
it's all down to preference dude.

Sonor is better than dw? I always thought that dw was the best.

If DW is a lamborghini, then Sonor SQ2 is a frickin private jet.
bbrryyaann21 (December 5, 2008 at 3:07 am)
Yeah, the creators are a lot alike, but I'm sure the Sq2 sounds a hell of a lot better. I'm not dissin' the Pro M though, thats what I play. I'm looking for an upgrade.

They are expensive that is true but I think its in how long these things last that the price is warranted. I have an SQ2 set up but also have a 14 year old phonic series snare which I have gigged a lot and there isnt a spot of rust or pitting on the chrome anywhere! It still looks like its just out of the box, whereas my Pearl MLX (long lug) kit from the same era is falling to pieces and I have only ever had it sitting in my recording studio! The lugs are breaking off due to poor casting work!

I think that the SQ2 configurator would be like the Mapex's My Pro M
kraztrain14 (November 22, 2008 at 12:36 am)
i checked out the prices, and an sq2 22x20 bass drum is almost as expensive as a 5 piece dw!!!

don't you just love people who compare intermediate kits to custom? it can't be done, custom is almighty!

The Force 3007s are a better deal for the money compared to the SQ2. Slap some nice Evans EQ heads on the toms and Emads and the kicks and you're good to go.
seattlepower (October 11, 2008 at 11:28 pm)
anything sonor you get is generally going to be a high end kit, they dont fuck around with cheap peices of crap, i have a 3005 force kit and i absolutely LOVE it
seattlepower (October 11, 2008 at 11:26 pm)
1:14 tiger wood, thats not even a laquer!!! my god i want one!

Sonor.....Derek Roddy of Hate Eternal....Martin Lopez, ex-opeth, Tomas Haake of Meshuggah, Danny Carey of Tool forgive my ignorance....but sounds like metal to me

In my opinion, the SQ2 is the best drum set in the market currently, period. I can't really think of any other set that can beat these. But the price tag is too much. They should crank it down a notch. I mean the quality of the drums are great but they aren't outstanding compared to substantially cheaper kits. It's price tag is probably for it's custom made sizes and designs perhaps.
invis19 (September 10, 2008 at 11:48 pm)
i always thought it was sonor like "solar"
ToolKid21 (August 23, 2008 at 11:46 pm)
so whats so special about the SQ2?and what is the most expensive sonor drums? the force ones?
Sonormuseum (August 22, 2008 at 3:40 pm)
It's not Sonor's fault. You can thank the 60% devaluation of the US Dollar vs. the Euro over the past 8 years. In 2000 a Euro was worth 89 cents. In 2008 it's worth $1.50+.

DW drums are free compared to these, thats saying somthing...damn
